East Bank Greenway

Temp: 76, partly cloudy

Rode the East bank of the Cumberland down by the Titan's Stadium. (LP Field) Plenty of area to ride all level and interesting . You also have to deal with the homeless asking about your bike. (Never seen one like that before)

Too small of a picture of !st Ave from the east bank, River Front Park and Fort Negley.

I rode the Greenway multiple times and the railroad tracks are within 10 feet of the greenway.
I then decided to ride around the stadium and that was when two switchers pulling two gondolas of junk came through the park. Bummer, this is as close as I came to them. If only they would have come through 15 minutes earlier........

I rode about 7 miles and was about to quit when I got with another biker and he was going to Shelby bottom greenway so we took off and traveled 2 1/2 miles over to the park.

On the way I saw this Center Cab Davenport Switcher in operation moving gondolas into position.

On the way back I took this picture of 3 ways to come into Nashville. River, Music City Star and the Highway.

Tennessee History

Temp: 80 Partly Cloudy

I rode on the Bicentennial mall today. I arrived just in time to ride inside the bells of the
carillon as they played for 15 minutes at Noon.

As you ride south on the Mall you see the Capital of Tennessee on the hill above you

Coming North toward the bells, you ride through granite walls telling the history of Tennessee
Each pillar is dated as a decade and the history of that decade is on the granite wall to your right.

I was the only bicycle there today but there were numerous walkers from the state buildings including my wife and some of her friends taking their lunch stroll.

It is a level ride if you stay in the mall itself. Some of the streets around it have hills.

Along the River Again

Temp: 83, Cloudy

I went to the "Metro Center Levee Greenway" again. The reasons are that it is level, 6 miles, easy to get to and from. I did 6 miles and averaged 8 to 10 miles an hour. Took the 4 hills without stopping. Felt good.

After Church

Temp: 80, Clear

Since I road a long distance yesterday and today was filled with Church I just took a short ride in the neighborhood after Church. It was nice with the sun setting and no wind.
I got me a two piece flag pole yesterday and took off the flag that came with it and put on a Cincinnati Reds flag. So I guess my EZ 1 can be called the " Reds Rider"!
I have added a lot of stuff since the picture was taken of me riding the bike .
Here is a picture of it now. Before I took off the fairing for the summer and added the flag.

The first EZ Group ride this Year.

Temp: 82 Clear

4 EZ 3's, 1 EZ Tad and 1 EZ 1 went for a 11 o'clock ride at the Shelby Bottoms Greenway.

The Group is checking out the new bridge that is being built across the Cumberland river. This bridge will connect up multiple greenways that will allow a rider to start in Nashville and ride to the Percy Priest Dam or to Opra Mills. Also many downtown workers will be able to commute to work from as far away as Bell Road or from the Donelson Area without hardly hitting a street with automobile traffic.

As we rode we were able to see the General Jackson River Boat multiple times.
After deciding to go for "just one more mile" a couple of times, we had a glorious afternoon ride of over 12 miles. A great first ride of the season.

12.3 miles in the "Quest of Fitness" Total 31.5 miles first week.

Nashville's Stones River Greenway

Temp: 80, partly Cloudy

I had a great ride on the Stones River Greenway starting at the the Wave Park. The above picture is the tunnel that you come to almost immediately after leaving the wave park. This greenway is very hilly so I was able to only go 3.7 miles with some walking. It goes by the Golf course and by Mc Gavic High school. You end up near Heartland park and the bridge that is going to go over the
Stones River. When this section is done it will be nice long ride to Percy Priest Dam. Started a tan on my legs and was proud I was able to climb some of the hills on the bike. This is a fun way to get fit.

In the Neighborhood

73 degrees and overcast.

Since my wife took both sets of keys, I had to stay at home. I used the time to take off my fairing, checked the tightness of all nuts and bolts and sprayed silicone lubricant on the chain and gear sprockets. Took it out for a 3 1/2 mile ride. I started going farther down the hills and climbing them sure made the thighs burn When I got back I decided to to adjust my riding position. I moved the seat back by an inch and half reclined the back by an inch and brought the handlebars back by an inch or so. After taking it out for another mile and half I discovered these positions make the bike more stable and easier on the body.

Spring has Sprung!!

Temp: 77 Partly Cloudy
Around 11 this morning I started the "MetroCenter Levee Greenway" in Nashville
It is a wonderful 3 mile ride along the Cumberland river that meanders through Nashville.
A levee was built for flood control for the Metro Center and the City asked if they could put a greenway on top. After completion it is a beautiful level ride along the river.
Yes, spring has arrived. This is the first full day of spring and the trees are in full bloom and the flowers are blossoming. It was a nice relaxing ride but I was able to only do about 5 miles.

There is company coming up the river.
This was also the first time to take the EZ 1 on the car carrier. It was ungainly and needs some problems worked out.

Rain, Rain go away!

Temp: 71 Raining

Well the forecasters hit it on the head and I could only catch a little ride in the neighborhood between showers. For those that do not know about recumbent bikes and the EZ 1 check out this link. EZ 1 SC It is a heavy duty bike for me, I weigh 260 pounds, and is a good bike to start out.
I don't think I will be touring so I might have it a while. I have added a rack, Sigma Sport wired computer, Cateye LED front and rear lights, a Windwrap fairing, signal bell, and handlebar-end mirror. Makes for a very good greenway riding bike and I get a lot of exercise. Speaking of exercise, today after riding for the first time this season yesterday, I am very sore. Now to get back on the bike every day and get back into shape.

Get me out of the Neighborhood

I decided that I was going to get out of the neighborhood. I bought a carrier that fits on the back of my old Mercedes Diesel and am going to get back into shape on the Greenways of Nashville.
I got my EZ 1 out and cleaned it,
aired up the tires. I put a carrier on the back of my car, installed a pump holder and a bag on the bike tonight that will hold my tubes and tools to change flats and minor maintenance. Before, I have always been near the house if I needed to fix any problems. I am going to adventure out tomorrow, if the weather is agreeable. Predicted to be in the 60's and a chance of rain.
